West Des Moines, IA — The construction of Windsor Windows & Doors’ 100,000 square foot addition is well underway. This facility will produce the company’s newly expanded line of vinyl windows and will be adjacent to Windsor’s current West Des Moines facility located on South 19th Street. Manufacturing is anticipated to begin in November 2006.
This new facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment used for glass insulation and automated assembly of the vinyl products. The new product has evolved from Windsor’s Next Dimension vinyl window created in 1995. Vinyl windows are versatile and economical; thus, they have grown increasingly popular among a wide array of homeowners, builders, and contractors. The new vinyl product is aimed to appeal to an even broader audience due to its custom extruded profile, which creates visual dimension and attractive sightlines.
“We are creating an innovative product that will be second to none in the industry. This product will be attractive, easy to install and operate, require virtually no maintenance, and have an outstanding value. We feel confident that it will be an ideal product for the builder and homeowner,” said Tyler Roorda, Production Manager.
Windsor has grown substantially over the past sixty years and has established a firm foundation in the central Iowa community. John Smit, president of the company, attributes a large portion of its success to the dedicated employees found here in the Midwest. Because of this, the company felt confident that West Des Moines was the place in which to invest and expand. Windsor began modestly, as a regional manufacturer, with 12 employees. Now, a national manufacturer, Windsor has nearly 700 employees between two plants. With the addition of the new facility there will be an immediate increase of 30 employees and eventually up to 100 new employees, at the West Des Moines location.

- 1946 — Windsor Wood Working began in Windsor Heights, Iowa, making various wood products. Marion Dawson was the first president, and there were approximately 12 and employees.
- 1950 — Windsor Wood Working produced the first window.
