Rethinking Vinyl Production

Having a safe and more productive work area is crucial to any successful facility. Since moving to the Norwalk plant 18 months ago, we realized we could improve the organization and efficiency of some of the production areas. Tight working conditions, space restrictions, disorganization and the volume of material moving through these production lines were resulting in less than optimal working environments. Our team came together and created a plan for improved productivity. Drawing floor plans, planning the move and then implementation of the needed changes took three Saturdays. The benefits were immediately apparent upon completion.

Aisle space was at a premium and tight working conditions made it difficult to organize and find needed material. Maneuvering units from one work station to the next without running into each other was slowing our process and causing congestion. Creating a safer place for our employees is our top priority. These moves have allowed our employees to work in a safer manner. We can now move units more freely and this has created a better workflow.

This move will allow for future growth in the Vinyl Departments. It has provided the space we need to focus on quality, especially with the demand for larger units. More space has allowed our teams to stage material and to be able to inspect for quality more efficiently and effectively. In the end, this decision to improve our workflow has not only created a safer environment for our employees; it has given us the opportunity to build larger products more efficiently.
