LightHorse 4041 is an 84-unit luxury apartment residence designed into a commercial/residential mixed-use building. LightHorse 4041 is situated in Shorewood, Wisconsin, a desirable North Shore suburb of Milwaukee.

The LightHorse name refers to the historic use of the site, and its surrounding 30 acres, as the home barracks, drill field and stables for the Wisconsin National Guard’s 105th Cavalry Unit. The unit used the site until 1929.

The architectural design of this project consists of many large mulled window and patio door configurations, with an interior pine clear coat finish and an anodized champagne exterior color.

Eric Ponto, Partner at Engberg Anderson Architects, stated, “When working on the design for LightHorse 4041, we were looking for a window that could provide an exterior look matching our intended modern aesthetic, but an interior projecting the traditional look of wood. The Windsor product provided an exterior anodized option that complemented the stainless steel shingle cladding, while the clear pine finish gave the interiors the desired warmth of wood.”

Ponto appreciated the ability to customize Windsor products. “The flexibility of sizing options and design of the product allowed for large openings that fill the units with natural light. The assistance upfront helped the design approval process with the developer and the local municipality.”
