Working to Better Our Communities

Windsor is always looking for ways to make a difference in our communities. This year our team members volunteered their time to help the following organizations complete projects that aid those in need.

Helping Children Sleep in Heavenly Peace

In September, a dozen employees from Windsor’s West Des Moines facility spent the afternoon cutting, sanding and constructing twin size beds for children in need in our area. The nonprofit organization responsible for this cause is called Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Their motto is “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town.” They build and deliver beds for children that range in age from three to seven whose family cannot afford to buy them one. Windsor volunteers were able to produce 14 beds in just 3 hours. Employees who were unable to volunteer that day donated new bedding, pillows and quilts for the children receiving the beds. Every employee who participated was honored to spend a few hours of their time providing sturdy and comfortable beds for young people in our community.

Supporting Hometown Heroes

In September, the managers from our North Carolina plant packed “chemo” backpacks for the Hometown Heroes organization in Union County. This nonprofit organization provides for the daily needs of families whose children are going through cancer treatments. They also provide encouragement and emotional support during this difficult time. These backpacks contained a blanket, a journal, toys, hand sanitizer, craft supplies and a water bottle. The backpacks were given to the 27 children that are currently being sponsored by Hometown Heroes during the kick-off to their annual motorcycle ride for charity. The employees were pleased to spend time supporting this worthy cause and expressed interest in continuing to volunteer for this local charity.

Building Homes for Habitat for Humanity

In October, employees from our Iowa plant utilized their energy and talent to assist the local Habitat for Humanity organization as they completed homes for low-income families in our community. There was a group of four homes that needed to have the exterior painted and they wanted to get this portion of the project completed before the weather conditions worsened. Our crew was assigned to paint one of the homes. A few mentioned that painting wasn’t their favorite home-improvement project, but they took on the challenge with a smile. Donating time to this worthy organization is a heart-warming experience.
