2020 Woodgrain Scholarship Recipients

Woodgrain is honored to provide scholarships to the children of its employees who are enrolled in higher education. Graduating high school seniors and returning college students who are attending an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational school are eligible for this financial aid, and all employees are encouraged to apply. Recipients are selected based on grade point average, career goals, community involvement, demonstrations of leadership and financial need. Many students have earned this scholarship for all four years of their education. Woodgrain is pleased to announce the 2020 Window Division recipients:

Bryan Gordillo is the son of Patricio Gordillo, who works in the Shipping/Receiving Department in Monroe, NC. This fall, Bryan will be a freshman at Hudson County Community College majoring in Hospitality.  Bryan chose this major because he loves helping others. He is excited to communicate and interact with customers and make them feel comfortable and welcomed in unfamiliar settings.

Jessica Cardoso is the daughter of Pedro Cardoso, who works in the Casement Department in Monroe, NC. Jessica will be a freshman at Warren Wilson College with a major in Veterinary Science and a minor in Theatre/Acting. Jessica enjoys theatre as her hobby and chose to make her career in Veterinary Science because she loves animals and wants to spend her life interacting with them and making a difference in their lives.

Maggie Gallagher is the daughter of John Gallagher, the Regional Sales Manager in Indiana and western Ohio. Maggie will be a senior at the University of Kentucky majoring in Human Health Science with a minor in Biology. After this year, Maggie plans on continuing her education by entering the Physician Assistant Graduate Program.

Serena Allison is the daughter of Shelia Allison, who works in Monroe, NC in Human Resources. Serena will be a senior this fall at Charleston, Southern University and is studying Early Childhood Education. Serena’s dream is to work with children and help them find their voice in this world. It has been an honor for her to be chosen for the Woodgrain Scholarship all four years of college.

Macie Hoch is the daughter of Jennifer Hoch, who works in Inside Sales in West Des Moines, IA. Macie will be a freshman this fall at Central College with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Maggie is interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.

Grace Reynolds will be starting her Freshman year at Des Moines Area Community College studying to become a Dental Hygienist. She has always been interested in oral hygiene and feels it is very important to a person’s overall well-being. Her goal is to inform others about the importance of oral health. Grace is the daughter of Jason and Patricia Reynolds. Jason works in the Maintenance department at the Norwalk, IA facility.

Lauren Widlowski will be a junior this fall at Carroll University. She is motivated by helping others and chose Exercise Science/Physical Therapy as her major. Matt and Lisa Widlowski are proud parents. Matt works in Sales at the West Des Moines, IA location.

Kent and Lisa Tindell’s daughter, Lexi Tindell, will be a freshman this year at Iowa State University. She will be majoring in Graphic or Interior Design with a minor in Business. Lexi is passionate about art and spends most of her free time drawing or painting. By majoring in a field she loves, Lexi will never have to “work” a day in her life. Kent Tindell is the Director of Manufacturing and is located at the West Des Moines, IA plant.

Iowa State University will welcome Jason Scandiffio as a sophomore this fall. Jason is studying Mechanical Engineering as he has always enjoyed math and understanding how things work. Jason spends his free time playing baseball for the Baseball Recreation Club. Anthony and Mirna Scandiffio are Jason’s parents. Anthony oversees the Direct Set/ Radius Department at the West Des Moines, IA plant.

Jordan Pierce, son of David and JP Pierce, will complete his last semester at the University of Iowa and will be receiving his Bachelor of Nursing degree. Once he graduates, Jordan plans on working in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital for a year and then applying to a Nurse Anesthetist program. He has been interning in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit this summer and has thrived in this setting. JP is the Marketing Assistant at the West Des Moines, IA location.

Hunter Pierce is the youngest son of David and JP Pierce. Hunter will be starting his junior year at Iowa State University this fall and has chosen Agronomy as his major. As the parents of two college-aged sons, JP and David are proud (and grateful) that both of their sons received the Woodgrain scholarship this year.
